USCMO Mourns the Victims of the Horrible Attack in Nice France

(Washington, D.C., 7/15/2016)- The US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), the largest coalition of leading national and local Muslim organizations, stands in solidarity and mourning with the people of France and sends its heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims and to the people of France.

On Thursday night USCMO watched in horror as 84 innocent lives were taken and many more injured when a truck plowed through crowds during a Bastille Day festival and continued to open fire on people gathered to watch fireworks in the French city of Nice. This comes on the heels of mass attacks in Turkey, Bangladesh, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and here at home. USCMO vehemently condemns this deplorable act of violence and all such horrendous acts anywhere in the world.

Sadly, in times like these we find political opportunists who exploit the tragedy to help create a toxic environment of bigotry. We believe that bigotry serves the narrative of terrorists, and that acts of terror promote bigotry. Bigotry and terror are mutually reinforcing social diseases. It is clear to people of conscience that terror has no respect for the sanctity of life that God has made sacred, and has no claim of moral or religious standing. We urge the world to come together in peace and solidarity during this difficult time and rise above the hate and violence these perpetrators wish to spread.
