(WASHINGTON, D.C., 9/7/17) – The US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), a coalition of leading national and local Muslim-American organizations, is firmly against the Trump Administration’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals ( DACA) and urges the president to keep it.
On Tuesday, September 5, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the Department of Justice will move to repeal the DACA, an immigration policy that provides hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants the opportunity to legally reside in the United States of America, the only country they have ever known, to be able to grow, develop, and mature as Americans and as human beings.
Repealing DACA is not only detrimental to immigrants that have participated in this program, but harms us all by contradicting core American values. Our nation prides itself on the opportunities that we provide and the freedoms that we enjoy. To take these opportunities away from hard working, and contributing members of society is dehumanizing, discriminatory and un-American.
USCMO adds its voice in denouncing this action and ask members of congress to keep DACA because it is the right thing to do.
