On August 15, 2018, a delegation of USCMO held another round of talks with the Myanmar Diplomats in Washington, D.C. and discussed the need for immediate humanitarian assistance and safety and security of internally displaced population. Risking death by sea or on foot, nearly 700,000 Rohingya have fled the destruction of their homes. Moreover, thousands of houses have been burnt downs and hundreds of villages have been completely emptied. Yet, a significant number of Rohingya are internally displaced in Myanmar.
The delegation also discussed other important long-term issues in the Rakhine state such as community relations, religious freedom, and economic development for all the people of Rakhine state. Secretary General of USCMO, Oussama Jammal said “the delegation will continue these dialogues in the near future and we are determined to achieve satisfactory results”.
