USCMO Commemorates Dr. King

One of the most influential figures of American history, Dr. Martin Luther King was a prominent advocate of nonviolent protest and maintained the importance of equality for all. As we commemorate his life, it’s pertinent to honor and reflect on his accomplishments as a civil rights leader, whose efforts helped to reshape American political and social life.

Still, the work is not done. While legal segregation has ended, the vestiges of racial division continues to plague America. Now more than ever, it is imperative we recognize the real struggles faced by Dr. King, to face the challenges to rights that are confronting us today.

As we remember him, we need to keep the spirit of his movement alive. The USCMO urges our fellow American Muslims to participate in local activities and commemorative events to empower and strengthen our communities. It is our duty to be proactive and engaged citizens, to bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and carry on Dr. King’s legacy as an all American struggle for a perfect union.
