(Washington, D.C.; 1/7/2021) – The US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), a coalition of several leading national and local Muslim organizations and institutions, condemns the insurrection and assault on the United States Capitol by mutinous mobs, deliberately misled for nine unrelenting weeks into sedition and then shamefully goaded today to violence by President Donald J. Trump.
We urge the following actions with all haste:
- We call on the rioters illegally assembled at the Capitol Building to defuse this volatile situation by returning to their homes, then to seek out unbiased, expert authorities who can apprise them of the facts and realities of the recent presidential election and disabuse them of the raft of lethal lies that President Trump and the cabal formed around him have treacherously spread with malicious, self-serving intent.
- We urge our Senators and Representatives to immediately end this irresponsible and flagrantly political gambit of challenging the Electoral College’s certified slates of state electors and quickly and wholeheartedly approve their votes, electing Joe Biden to the presidency without contest. The spiraling, violent events of today demand an urgent demonstration of complete political unity to restore public confidence in the recent, meticulously monitored presidential election.
- We enjoin the elected political leaders of the United States to remove President Trump from office immediately for his sustained, obsessive, naked attempts to subvert this free, fair election; for his premeditated efforts to punish the American people by destroying our political infrastructure simply because a vast majority chose not to reelect him; and for seeking to rend the fabric of this nation by means of incessant sedition and surreptitiously spurring outright armed revolt to feed his unbridled power lust.
For these reasons, the elected representatives of this nation must remove President Trump from office immediately before he continues unleashing forces of havoc at home or abroad at a cost we cannot as a people bear or survive.
