USCMO Commends Biden Administration for Historic Nominations of Rashad Hussain, Khizr Khan to Religious Freedom Posts

(WASHINGTON, DC – 7/30/2021) – The US Council of Muslim Organizations, the largest umbrella group of
Muslim organizations, today commended the Biden Administration for nominating Muslim Americans
Rashad Hussain and Khizr Khan to serve in key religious freedom posts in the State Department.

President Biden has nominated Rashad Hussain to serve as Ambassador-at-Large for International
Religious Freedom while Khizr Khan has been appointed to serve as a commissioner of the U.S.
Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF). Hussain’s nomination requires Senate
confirmation.

In a statement, USCMO Secretary-General Oussama Jammal said:

“USCMO commends President Biden for these historic appointments. Rashad Hussain is a highly qualified
and widely respected public servant and Khizr Khan has also been an outspoken defender of civil rights
and religious liberty in the United States.

“We expect both Mr. Hussain and Mr. Khan to play an important role in defending religious freedom around
the world, including the many countries where Muslims and other religious minorities are facing everything
from discrimination to genocide.”

USCMO is encouraging the U.S. Senate to swiftly confirm Mr. Hussain to his position.
