(WASHINGTON, D.C., 1/4/2022) – The US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO) and American Muslims condemn with alarm the recent flagrantly open call of Hindu chauvinist leaders in a “Genocide Convention” – with the tacit endorsement of India’s ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – for the mass genocide, forced conversion, and ethnic cleansing of India’s 213 million Muslims.
We implicate, as well, the disgraceful silence and bigoted neglect of global leaders to immediately and loudly censure India, its virulent Hindutva ideology, and the blood-crazed propagators of this shamelessly concerted and building cry for the slaughter and suppression of hundreds of millions of religious minorities, including Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs. In their conspicuous silence, these nations and leaders, especially the US, have become willing enablers of the ongoing savage persecution of Indian Muslims and their coming genocide at the hands of empowered Hindu nationalists.
Annapurna Maa, a leading Hindu priestess (Mahamandleshwar) of Niranjini Akhada and General secretary of Hindu Mahasabha blatantly urged exterminating Indian Muslims.
“If you want to finish them off, then kill them. … Even if just a hundred of us become soldiers and kill two million of them, we will be victorious … If you stand with this attitude only then will you able to protect ‘sanatana dharma’ [absolutist Hinduism].”
She went on to urge “Genocide Convention” attendees to “pray to Nathuram Godse,” the Hindu who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi in 1948 for tolerance toward Muslims.
The nations of the East and West – and most shamefully those of the Muslim world – have for three decades assiduously ignored the mass persecution and killing of Muslims in India and the threat of full-scale genocide that its dominant Hindu nationalists have methodically and diabolically nurtured. Now the lives of tens of millions of innocents literally hang in the moral balance of these pusillanimous global leaders who have cynically set their perceived geopolitical interests, or their own domestic Islamophobic policies, above God-given human equity, justice, and the most basic human right of life.
India’s ruling BJP faction is led by President Narendra Modi, who was the chief minister and overseer of the orgy of killing and rape in the anti-Muslim pogrom of 2002 in Gujarat, the worst religious violence in Indian history. In an unmistakable reference to Muslims in a recently televised presidential address, Modi directed Hindu ire with knowingly dire implications against the Indian Muslim community, saying that the perpetrators of violence “can be identified by their dress.”
The BJP is the political wing of the Rashtriya Sawayamsewak Sangh (RSS) religious and paramilitary organization founded in1925, which openly crafted its Hindutva creed and methodology based on the rise of European fascism at the time, especially Nazism.
India’s Hindu extremists are increasingly goading mobs to raze mosques to the ground and replace them with Hindu shrines. They are systematically programming anti-Muslim mob violence, including Hindutva-driven cow vigilantism and beef lynching: the public murder of Muslims “accused” of slaughtering, consuming, or transporting beef, imposing the idolatrous Hindu tenet of sacred cows on Muslims. India’s state governments with religious minorities are preventing Muslims from celebrating the Eid festivals and Christians from Easter and Christmas observances.
Last month, in Dharmanagari Haridwar, the largest religious body of Hindus in India, the Hindu Religious Parliament (Dharma Sansad), initiated a series of “Genocide Conventions” throughout India, led by the 400,000-member Juna Akhara, a historically militant force, under the theme “Warfare, Weapons, Triumph.”
“Economic boycott won’t work. Hindu groups need to update themselves. Swords look good on stage only. This battle will be won by those with better weapons,” said Yati Narsinghanand, the militant Hindutva leader of the Juna Akhara, at the Genocide Convention.
BJP leaders Ashwini Upadhyay and Udita Tyagi attended the convention, which called for a “Final Solution” for Muslims in India, as Hitler did for Jews in Germany.
Religious leader Swami Prabodhoanand Giri, with Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, the state hosting the Genocide Convention in adoring attendance, said that “like Myanmar, our police, our army, and every Hindu in India must pick up weapons and conduct this Safaayi Abhiyan (ethnic cleansing). There is no other option left.” He was referencing Myanmar’s collaborative government, military, and Buddhist genocide against the Rohingya Muslims.
Globally regarded human rights organization Genocide Watch has issued two genocide alerts for India, higher than any place in the world, in which it characterizes India as currently in the late-stage “organization” phase of committing genocide.
Prominent media figures, like Suresh Chavhanke, Editor-in-Chief of a popular television station notorious for rousing Indians against Muslims with sensational reports took a public oath to make India a “Hindu Rashtra,” an exclusively Hindu nation, and to “die and kill” for it, administering the same death-oath publically to others taking a Nazi salute.
All of these statements from the Genocide Convention, and other statements, are recorded for all to see. Yet no nation or world leader has uttered a word.
“Not a peep, much less a condemnation, from the gov’t. Sad truth is that this deafening silence isn’t the least bit surprising,” Michael Kugelman of the Wilson Center, tweeted at the Indian government after the Genocide Convention.
USCMO leaders, and American Muslims, call for three actions:
- President Joseph Biden must publically and formally condemn these statements and developments of Hindu chauvinism in India, tying this condemnation to American military sales and political agreements with India.
- The Biden administration should heavily sanction the political and religious leaders of India’s BJP and RSS endorsing Muslim genocide
- The Department of Justice must investigate American Hindu nationalist organizations that aid and abet this dangerous Hindutva ideology and threat of genocide against Muslims, Christians, and Sikhs in India and take appropriate measures.
- The Senate must immediately pass proposed legislation to appoint a US Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Islamophobia, as the House recently has, and President Biden must sign the measure into law and appoint an Envoy immediately.
Americans cannot stand idly by while India organizes a genocide against tens of millions simply because those people say their God is One, and seek to uphold the monotheistic Heavenly faiths.
May God be in the aid of the Muslims, Christians, and all others now facing religious persecution and genocide in India.
