USCMO Welcomes Lebanon Ceasefire, Calls for End to Gaza Genocide

(Washington, D.C., 11/27/2024) – The US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), the nation’s umbrella group of Muslim associations, expressed cautious support for the full and fair implementation of the Lebanon ceasefire announced today, but called it fatally incomplete without the immediate inclusion of a Gaza ceasefire that halts the  Israeli apartheid government’s ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

USCMO endorses an internationally monitored and enforced, full, immediate, and sustained end to the daily Israeli bombings of civilians in Lebanon; immediate and complete withdrawal of occupying Israeli troops from all Lebanese territory; the internationally prevented return of Israeli troops to Lebanon; and the speedy, unimpeded, internationally protected return of more than 1.5 million displaced Lebanese to their homes.

Oussama Jammal, USCMO secretary general said in a statement:

“We welcome an end to the Israeli apartheid government’s daily massacres of innocents in Lebanon through this announced truce. But this development is fatally flawed without an immediate and internationally enforced end to the ongoing Israeli-U.S. genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

“The Biden administration’s ongoing financial, diplomatic and military support for Netanyahu’s genocidal war crimes in Gaza confirms that President Biden does not care about the daily slaughter and starvation of the winter- and sewage-exposed children, women, elderly, disabled, pregnant and nursing of Gaza, or the welfare of endangered captives and their families on either side.”

USCMO plans to continue advocating for an end to the genocide in Gaza.
