Historic UN General Assembly Debate on Palestinian Statehood Begins 23 September
(Washington, D.C., 9/21/2025) – The US Council of Muslim Organizations, America’s umbrella group of Muslim associations, applauds Keir Starmer’s UK government for announcing its vote to recognize the Palestinian State at the 80th UN General Assembly (UNGA) meeting, whose High-Level General Debate begins Tuesday, September 23, in New York. The UK joins Canada, Australia, Belgium, and France as leading European nations now pushing the world toward its inevitable recognition of Palestinian statehood. The UK vote comes 108 years after its infamous British Balfour Declaration betrayed the Palestinians and Arabs, setting in motion the perpetual conflict-causing superimposition of a Zionist state on Palestinian lands. Three decades later, in 1947, the UN voted to endorse that travesty of confiscating Palestinian lands for European Zionist forced immigration. In 1949, the UN formalized its recognition of two states. Notably, the UK, Canadian, Australian, and Belgian announcements of their UN vote to formally recognize a Palestinian state comes just a day before France and Saudi Arabia will co-host a UN conference endorsing the now virtually globally endorsed two-state solution that accords Palestinians their natural right to independence as a free, sovereign people on their own lands. The U.S. has historically led the world in endorsing a Palestinian state as part of a two-state solution. Indeed, it has spent more than seven decades calling for it. Yet the U.S.’s repeated undermining of its own stated policy on Palestine has been the single biggest – and increasingly internationally isolating – impediment to achieving this clear pathway to globally crucial peace in the Holy Land and the Middle East. It is long past time for a U.S. president to locate the courage and moral conscience – and the sincerity for the good of our nation not himself – to rescue America from ever faster circling the drain of history and earning history’s indelible final judgment of utter condemnation against it. The U.S. must recognize the unalienable right of Palestinians to self-determination in their own lands as a recognized state on equal footing with all other nations. USCMO Secretary General Oussama Jammal said in a statement: “Trump’s America First agenda is now in real jeopardy, almost solely because wanted war criminal Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his unregistered U.S. minions have humiliatingly put the leash on almost all our political representatives for going on three decades. “President Trump needs to read the writing on the wall and stand tall for America and freedom. “He needs to vote for U.S. recognition of the Palestinian state in this UNGA meeting – not only to free Palestinians – but also to free Americans from this stranglehold of Israeli tentacles choking off our national oxygen. “Trump needs to stop this blind, obsequious U.S. political support for an indefensible string of Israeli crimes against humanity. “Most urgently, a U.S. vote for Palestinian Statehood on Tuesday that Trump firmly implements will stop in its bloody tracks this ungodly Gaza genocide that the U.S. has been shamefully fully co-conducting– against the will and interests of the suffering American people – since Biden’s doddering presidency two years ago. “An authoritative word endorsing Palestinian statehood from Trump can stop this berserk Israeli bloodlust for intentionally slaughtering Palestinian children, women, the elderly and infirm, journalists, first responders, physicians and healthcare workers, Muslims and Christians, along with negotiators and diplomats at home and abroad. “With a U.S. vote at the UN for the nation of Palestine this week, Trump can singlehandedly throttle this maniacal Israeli rampage through the region, bombing and terrorizing six countries in the Middle East. “He can end this unhinged, Israeli government-led, settlers-run-amok perpetration of massacre after pogrom in the West Bank, while this rogue U.S. client state lawlessly conducts covert assassination operations in countries throughout the world, including the most aggressive and threatening spy operations the U.S., its benefactor, undergoes at every political, social, and cultural level. “All this evil, a single word of ‘yes’ from Trump revokes. Then instantly, America and the world become greatly more secure, stronger, and stable places. “President Trump, find your moral American compass.” USCMO calls on President Trump to enforce his stated America First policy and declare the U.S.’s recognition of a Palestinian state according to Palestine’s 1967 UN-established borders at the UNGA this week. We further call on President Trump and the U.S. Congress to end all support – diplomatic, financial, and materiel – that enables the Israeli apartheid state’s genocide in Gaza; colonization and usurpation of Palestinian land anywhere; political and religious persecution of the Palestinian people, Muslims and Christians, and Israeli desecration of their mosques and churches; and the obstruction of Palestinian freedom, security, and self-determination.
