Attorney
Abrar Omeish is an attorney and a prominent figure in Fairfax County, Virginia, currently serving as an At-Large Member of the Fairfax County School Board. She made history as the first Libyan American ever elected in US history, the first Muslim, and the youngest person ever elected to her role on the board. Omeish oversees a substantial budget of 3 billion dollars and represents 1.2 million constituents in Fairfax County. Her work on the board centers around promoting equitable and inclusive education for all students.
Before joining the School Board, Omeish co-founded a non-profit providing free tutoring and mentorship to disadvantaged youth. She also served as a legal fellow at a human rights and immigration law firm and was a spokeswoman for the #NoMuslimBanEver campaign.
Academically, Omeish earned a double bachelor's degree with honors from Yale University and is pursuing a dual MPP/JD degree at Georgetown University. In 2024, she became a Certified Mediator and a Notary Public in Virginia. She is also a National Board Member for the Girl Scouts of the USA. In 2021, she filed a lawsuit related to police brutality and being required to remove her hijab during a traffic stop.
