Political Trailblazer
Salima Suswell is an award-winning political activist, community mobilizer, and entrepreneur. She has extensive experience organizing Muslim voters and communities in order to build a more just, equitable world. Raised in Philadelphia as the daughter of two prominent, service-oriented local Black Muslim leaders, Salima has a lifelong appreciation for the power and determination of her community and works daily to follow in her parents’ footsteps.
She is the founder of the Black Muslim Leadership Council (and its advocacy wing, the Black Muslim Leadership Council Fund), a nonprofit devoted to uplifting the Black Muslim community. She is also the founder of the community-driven Philadelphia Ramadan & Eid Fund, the governmental consulting company Evolve Solutions, and the Halal Resource Group, Inc., an organization that provides Halal food and product services and cultural competency training for a wide variety of industries.
