USCMO Delegation Meets Top UN Peacebuilders On Kashmir

(New York, 10/27/2019) —USCMO representatives met on the dire humanitarian crisis in Kashmir with Peter Due Director of United Nations Asia and the Pacific Division Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations Director.

USCMO Secretary General Oussama Jammal called for the UN to dispatch a human rights commissioner to investigate the allegations of violence, torture, denial of healthcare and hospitalization, imprisonment of political leaders, and the notorious Indian total communications lockdown of 7 million Kashmiris. Delegation members shared personal stories of stranded loved ones with no news of their wellbeing or whereabouts.

Mr. Due assured USCMO delegates of the UN’s deep concerns regarding Kashmir’s humanitarian crisis and emphasized Secretary General António Guterres’ unflinching statement on Kashmir. He also pointed to several scathing UN reports on India’s long-institutionalized patterns of systematic human rights abuses and persecution of Kashmiris under their administrative control, published by the renowned Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). Mr. Due vowed ongoing monitoring of the crisis and to continue issuing regular, forthright human rights violations reports.
