US Leaders Must Support Palestine’s Establishment as a Free Nation
(Washington, D.C., 7/26/2025) – The US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), America’s umbrella group of Muslim associations, commends French President Emmanuel Macron for his bold and moral diplomatic decision to formally declare France’s recognition of Palestine as a state at the U.N. General Assembly in September. The U.S. and other nations must follow suit.
″Given its historic commitment to a just and sustainable peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the state of Palestine,’’ Macron posted on the social platform X. ″Peace is possible.’’
Macron’s decision distinguishes France as the most significant Western nation to date to acknowledge the right of the Palestinian people to sovereign freedom and gives it significant moral leadership among the Allied countries, surpassing the United States, the United Kingdom, and other nations that remain in thrall to intransigent Israeli influence in their domestic politics.
Notably, Macron urgently and convincingly evidenced the need for the international community to immediately move to recognize a Palestinian state by citing the (Israeli weaponization of) starvation against Gaza’s Palestinian population, along with the shockingly inhuman persistence of the Israeli war of destruction on the entirety of Gaza’s life-supporting infrastructure.
“The urgent thing today is that the war in Gaza stops and the civilian population is saved,’’ Macron wrote.
For decades, Palestinians have sought their national independence inclusive of Gaza, the West Bank, and unlawfully annexed East Jerusalem.
It is significant that Macron’s announcement of Palestine’s state recognition comes as France and Saudi Arabia are about to co-host a U.N. conference advancing the broadly internationally endorsed two-state solution, according Palestinians their natural right to independence as a free nation.
USCMO Secretary General Oussama Jammal said in a statement:
“Macron has leapfrogged Trump in global moral leadership on Palestine because he could no longer wait for U.S. leadership.
“This genocide is far too flagrant and advanced for the U.S., and every other nation that wishes to retain some sense of benevolence and civilization, not to recognize, support, and practically see to the establishment and sustained protection and viability of a sovereign Palestinian state.
“Macron recognizes the urgency the entire world now sees with absolute horror:
- a unanimously acknowledged Israeli genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza
- a shocking Israeli policy of starving to death children, mothers, elderly and an entire population
- a literal Hunger Games program based on a fake humanitarian aid distribution scheme that starves people, lures them with miniscule food aid, then shoots them
- an openly stated diabolical plan to use starvation and an Auschwitz-modeled concentration camp to ethically cleanse Gaza of all Palestinians.
“What’s happening in Gaza is the most demonic human atrocity in living memory because for 658 days the entire world has been bearing witness to it in real time. No one can claim unawareness.
“This is absolutely going to end in international criminal prosecutions and judgments against all perpetrators and abettors and the historic sanction of guilty nations. No measure of power nor perceived of immunity will protect its perpetrators and collaborators.
“Palestine must be free, and it will be, God willing, whether international powers and leaders want it or not.
“Although late, Macron and France are absolutely to be lauded for their leadership in declaring recognition of the most crucial component for peace in the Middle East and the world – the establishment of a genuinely independent and autonomous state of Palestine.”
USCMO calls on President Trump and the U.S. Congress to forthwith declare the U.S.’s recognition of a Palestinian state according to Palestine’s 1967 borders, and to end all support – diplomatic, financial, and materiel – that enables the Israeli apartheid state’s genocide in Gaza, colonization and usurpation of Palestinian land, persecution of the Palestinian people, and obstruction of Palestinian self-governance.
Our leaders should not allow any foreign entity, its domestic agents, or our own captured politicians to deplete our nation’s moral integrity and wealth, divert our national duty to uphold our own citizens’ welfare first and foremost, or to diminish our foundational commitment as a beacon of freedom unto the nations.
