(Washington, D.C., 10/30/2026) – The US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), the nation’s largest coalition of national, regional, and local Muslim organizations, strongly condemns the horrific attack on St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Jordan’s Karak governorate, which claimed the lives of nine people and left dozens more injured.
The October 23 attack occurred as families and community members gathered for a funeral service, turning a moment of mourning and remembrance into one of unimaginable grief and violence.
USCMO extends its deepest condolences to the families of those killed, the Christian community of Jordan, and the Jordanian people. We pray for the swift and complete recovery of the injured and for comfort and strength for all those affected by this tragedy.
The deliberate targeting of innocent lives, particularly in a place of worship, is an unconscionable act of violence that violates the most fundamental principles of human dignity, religious freedom, and the sanctity of life. No community should ever have to fear for its safety while gathering in prayer, worship, or mourning.
USCMO also recognizes the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Royal Hashemite Court in their continued commitment to safeguarding Jordan’s security, religious harmony, and national unity. We appreciate the solidarity demonstrated by the Kingdom’s leadership with the victims and their families during this time of national mourning.
As Muslim Americans, we stand firmly alongside our Christian brothers and sisters in Jordan. Our faith teaches us that the sanctity of human life transcends religious differences, and that the protection of houses of worship is a shared moral responsibility.
USCMO calls for a thorough investigation, accountability for those responsible, and continued efforts to protect religious communities from violence and extremism.
At this moment of profound sorrow, we reaffirm our solidarity with the people of Jordan and our unwavering commitment to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and the protection of all people, regardless of faith.
May God grant mercy to those who have lost their lives, healing to the wounded, and peace and consolation to their grieving families.
